Pomapoos are a great family pet to have. Despite having inconsistent trait inheritance, Pomapoos are lucky to have parents whose characteristics and temperament are fairly family-friendly, making most Pomapoo descendants also family-friendly.
Pomapoos generally exhibits temperament characteristics that are inherited from their Poodle / Pomeranian parents. Because of that, it will be wise to look up information about these two breeds' temperament characteristics to know in exact detail what kind of personality your Pomapoo might exhibit. Doing so can help you plan more carefully about how you will treat and discipline you Pomapoo.
Below, are a few temperaments that Pomapoos might inherit from its parents, and also some suggestions on how to handle it so that you can minimize any negative effect it may have on your family and your pet.
Highly Social
Pomapoos are highly social animals, getting along very well with kids and other pets, even cats. As such, education about how to handle animals delicately should be given to your children before allowing them to interact with your Pomapoo. Even then, it's best to supervise them when they do interact with it just in case. Failure to do so may result in rough handling on your child's part, which may induce a violent backlash.
Willfulness
Pomapoos, being part Pomeranian, may have inherited some of its willfulness. If left unchecked, it may become fairly disobedient because of being used to getting its way. As such, gentle, but firm discipline, along with confidence while doing so from young is needed to let your dog know who's boss.
Shyness
Pomapoos, being part Poodle, may sometimes be shy towards strangers or new family members, a sharp contrast in comparison to its affectionate attitude towards familiar company. If left unchecked, it may react aggressively towards unfamiliar company out of defense. A way to overcome this is to expose your Pomapoo to social situations from young so that it can be used to meeting new people, reducing chances of it fearing and lashing out at unfamiliar company.
As always, you should always keep in mind that being a hybrid breed, Pomapoos may bear any characteristics familiar to its ancestor breeds. As such, it will be wise to adjust your treatment method to suit each individual Pomapoo accordingly.
